How To Source Top Talent

February 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Stop fishing in such shallow waters

Companies complaint that they can’t find qualified candidates is the biggest issue we regularly hear. This is because most of the time they are fishing for candidates in just 10% of the total candidate pool. Given that, does it surprise you that you can’t find people when you exclude the vast majority of candidates.

This happens because the sourcing techniques and advertising methods most companies use are out of date, designed to attract those candidates actively seeking a position and actually turn top talent off. If you want to attract top talent you have to consider their needs and what motivates them. NOT YOU.

Most companies advertise what they want, what they think is important and bark out a laundry list of demands that most top talent read and just walk away from. Top talent and passive candidates don’t care about you when they shop the internet for something new. They only care about - whats in it for me.

Advertise to the candidates motivations, why this is a great company to work for and how they will grow and top talent will respond instead of walking away.

Let us know how you source your candidates? Have you changed anything in how source candidates? Do you find advertising on the internet works better than traditional advertising? Leave your comments so we can share with others.

If you are a candidate leave us a comment on what attracts you and where you go for great opportunities.
